Isle of Berk Mod Taming, Controls and Dragon Commands
Every dragon in the Isle of Berk Mod answers to the same three inputs: a wooden stick, a primary ability key and a secondary ability key. Learn the system on a Terrible Terror and it transfers directly to a Skrill. What changes between species is the condition you have to satisfy before the dragon will engage with the system at all.
The stick as a universal tool
Reading taming progress
Right-click a wild dragon with a stick and the game reports how close you are. This single design decision removes the blind feeding loop that most taming mods rely on.
Cycling behaviour
On a tamed dragon the same right-click moves it between sitting, following and wandering. Sitting parks it, following makes it trail you on foot and in the air, and wandering lets it roam locally.
Follow mode in flight
A dragon set to follow while you are riding it will dive to catch you if you dismount in midair. Set it to sit before you jump off and you will discover how much fall damage the mod expects you to survive.
How taming works across species
Food is the base currency
Salmon, cod and tropical fish drive both taming and breeding across the whole roster. Carry a stack, not a handful.
Conditions layer on top
Harder species add a requirement: an active status effect, no armour anywhere, empty hands, or a specific life stage. These conditions are the entire difference between a tier one dragon and a tier five one.
Mood states are readable
Curious dragons hold position and watch you. Wary ones shift posture and will bolt. Stop the moment the posture changes and let the dragon settle.
Creative shortcuts
In creative, right-clicking tames a dragon outright and right-clicking an egg hatches it immediately — useful for testing an install, less useful if you want the progression.
Riding, breath attacks and special abilities
Saddling
A tamed dragon accepts a saddle in the same interaction slot a horse uses. Saddling unlocks riding and gives you access to the dragon's own inventory, which travels with it.
The primary ability key
Bound to R by default. Fire for most species, plasma for a Night Fury,
an electrical discharge for a Skrill, and a gas-then-ignite pairing for a Zippleback.
The secondary ability key
Bound to X by default. This is where species separate most sharply — a
Deadly Nadder launches tail spines, a Triple Stryke applies venom, and several species
use it as a mobility burst instead of an attack.
Rebinding
Both appear in the standard controls menu under the mod's own category. Worth checking before your first flight if you run a large pack, not during a fight.
Managing several dragons? Set everything you are not actively using to sit. A stack of dragons in follow mode is both a pathfinding mess and a measurable frame-rate cost.
Ready for the hardest tame in the mod?
The Night Fury checks your state continuously — armour, hands and night vision, the whole way through the approach.
